The Israel Camerata Jerusalem, regarded as Israel’s leading chamber orchestra, the Camerata was founded in 1984 by Avner Biron, who has been its music director and permanent conductor ever since. Under his guidance the orchestra has received worldwide recognition.
The Camerata performs more than 100 concerts a year in Israel and abroad. Its activities include subscribers’ series, festivals and special concerts. Its repertoire ranges from the Baroque to contemporary music. In addition to the traditional repertoire, the Camerata has showcased in its concert’s rare hidden gems of unknown and newly discovered music of different periods, and is devoted to premieres contemporary works, Israeli music, and works commissioned by the ensemble.
The Camerata has been invited for many concert tours around the world and has performed successfully in Europe, the U.S., Australia and Asia, at prestigious venues of Amsterdam, Bangkok, Beijing, Berlin, Chicago, Leipzig, Los Angeles, Munich, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Washington D. C, among others.
